If your dog or cat’s protein needs are not met, they may have difficulty maintaining lean muscle, and over time will become overweight.
Experts suggest that dogs should eat about 1 gram of protein for every pound of their ideal body weight, every day. For example, a dog with a 25 lb. ideal weight should eat about 25 grams of protein each day.
Cats need twice this amount: 2 grams of protein per pound of ideal body weight, per day. That would equal 16 grams of protein per day for a cat with an ideal body weight of 8 lbs.
